We found out earlier this month that one of our wonderful Volunteer Mentors has been recognised by the Queen for her dedication to volunteering in her community!

Cecilia Woods has been Mentoring with us for over 12 years, and frequently raises money for other charities through sponsored running. Cecilia discovered that she had been nominated by receiving a letter from the Queen, however she is still not sure who nominated her. She was recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list and has received the British Empire Medal.

Cecilia has volunteered her time to the Mentoring Service and has been matched with many young people over the years, stating that “It’s really rewarding to see the young person develop, I get as much out of it as I put in.” Our Mentoring Service has been running for over 20 years, and has matched almost 4000 young people with over 800 adults. Many people, like Cecilia, will Mentor more than one young person, and it is through their continued commitment that we are able to work with so many of Bolton’s most vulnerable young people.

Our Mentoring Service can only continue to run if we keep recruiting more wonderful, passionate volunteers like Cecilia. We currently have over 130 young people waiting for a Mentor, and by donating as little as 1-2 hours of your time a week, you can help us empower these young people through improving their self-esteem, self-confidence and resilience. click through to our Mentoring section on our website to find out how.

Well done Cecilia, we are really proud of you, and a massive Thank You for being such a wonderful, long standing Mentor and helping so many young people by donating your time!
