What is the criteria for a referral?
Young people need to be 18-25 years old, not in Education, Employment or Training and not on benefits at the time of being referred. Our Talent Coaches can help young people sign up and claim for benefits and you can refer just before they turn 18 years old. This may benefit a wide range of young people with different personal ongoing personal circumstances who we know often need extra support during this transition.

What support will young people receive during Covid 19?
All our services are now over the phone or via web technology. Young people will receive regular engagements over the phone or via video call to help them with their own well-being, online learning, help with CVs or job applications and generally a supportive friendly person who will help them to build their own self-confidence and self-esteem. We provide catch ups to as we know many young people are isolated right now and struggling. Our Talent Coaches also offer lots of signposting, advice and guidance as to what support is available right now during these difficult times around practical things like food, medicine and help with finances.

The engagements are based on what the young person is looking for at this current stage in their journey. For Example:

  • Support to improve their Well-being, Self-confidence & Self-Esteem
  • Supporting them through the process towards and maintain Education, Employment or Training (Even Online Learning)
  • If the needs of the Young Person is greater than what the Talent Coach can offer, we will provide advice and guidance and signpost the Young Person. The Talent Coach will stay involved during this period and help the Young Person engage with others if needed, acting as an advocate in some ways.

What if they need some specialist support around mental health?
42nd Street, also a programme partner, is leading on the provision of mental health and advice and guidance to young people and young people can access specialist support if need be. We can help young people refer into the service for some 1-1 mental health support work.
